Devotional Meetings

Connecting with the spirit within

The core of religious faith is that mystic feeling which unites man with God.  This state of spiritual communion can be brought about and maintained by means of meditation and prayer. – The Bahá’í Writings

Our spiritual journey begins with prayer and individually we commune with God in private. However, collective worship is an essential means for the community to develop and progress together. Prayer thus becomes woven into our daily lives and is not reserved for Holy Days or other special occasions.

Devotional meetings – whether conducted in our homes, our neighbourhoods or in worship centres – provide an opportunity to draw inspiration from the sacred writings, to uplift our inner being and to reflect on our spiritual path in life. We take time to quiet our minds and reconnect with our spirit.

In doing so, we open ourselves to inner illumination and that “mystic feeling”.  In prayer, we turn to God to receive His blessings, and strengthen the bonds of love connecting us with our Creator. Meeting with others in prayer and meditation can help us to increase our spiritual capacities and strengths, deepen our sense of connection with one another, and experience greater equanimity and purpose in our lives.

Devotional Meetings are held locally around Canberra and at the Bahá’í Centre in Weston.   Participants in the meetings share readings or prayers from the Bahá’í writings and the holy books of the world’s great religions.  There is no ritual or prescribed format, and the meetings are uplifting and inclusive.  Everyone, regardless of belief or background, is welcome.  To attend in your local area Contact Us, or let us know if you would like to join our mailing list.
